Location: Nine geographic beats throughout Skokie

Skokie Police will host neighborhood beat meetings throughout October where residents can meet officers, exchange information and discuss local concerns.

1. Family Campout at Emily Oaks

Date: September 25–26

Time: 6:00 PM–10:00 AM

 Location: Emily Oaks Nature Center, 4650 Brummel St.  Admission: $27 residents / $36 non-residents

Families can enjoy an overnight outdoor adventure with camping, a campfire, nighttime activities and breakfast.

 

2. Folk Songs & S'mores Campfire

Date: September 25

Time: 7:00–8:00 PM 

Location: Emily Oaks Nature Center

Admission: Registration required

Enjoy an evening of folk songs, s'mores and campfire fun at Emily Oaks.

 

3. Family Storytime

Date: September 26

Time: 11:00–11:30 AM 

Location: Skokie Public Library

Admission: Free

Families can enjoy an all-ages storytime. Free tickets are available beginning at 10:30 AM, with limited space.

 

4. Labor and AI: Developing Future-Proof AI Skills

Time: 3:00–4:30 PM

A discussion about artificial intelligence, the changing workplace and skills for the future of work.

 

5. Skokie Farmers' Market

More Road Improvements Planned Across Skokie

Church Street road improvements have been completed, while planning continues for a future Crawford Avenue reconstruction project featuring roadway, pedestrian and bicycle improvements.

  • A new name in 1940: Skokie was incorporated as Niles Centre in 1888. Residents voted to rename it Skokie more than 50 years later.
  • A station added decades later: The CTA’s Yellow Line began service as the Skokie Swift in 1964. Its Oakton-Skokie station did not open until 2012.
  • The march that never happened: A proposed neo-Nazi march in Skokie became a landmark free-speech controversy in the 1970s, but the group never marched in the village.
  • Art by the water: The Skokie Northshore Sculpture Park places outdoor artworks along the North Shore Channel, turning a stretch of its bank into a public gallery.
